Welcome to Contour Architectural

Contour has been shaping and forming metal into complex structures for architectural and restoration projects since 1976. And various high-profile commissions have shown that our traditional craftsmanship is still very much in demand today.

Our most prestigious project was hand crafting the petals for Heatherwick's London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Cauldrons.

Working closely with engineering and scenic specialists, Stage One, we shaped the petals from sheet copper using a range of traditional tools and techniques including a specially-modified version of our own wheeling machine.

In total our team formed more than 600 petals – this included a test set and one set each for the Olympics and Paralympics. There were 204 different types of petal, each one representing a competing country and each one with its own unique, and challenging, double-curvature design.

Prior to this project our skills were employed on the complex aluminium bow section of Millimetre Ltd's award-winning A Room for London.

This project involved the shaping of aluminium panels using our unique power hammer to create the large double-curvature structure. It was then assembled using 1,400 rivets.

If your next project needs specialist sheet-metal shaping, large or small, from one-offs to long production runs, speak to Contour Architectural today.
